Summary

  • Enhanced stakeholder engagement: Postcode Lottery utilises Polimapper’s visualisations to provide MPs, MSPs and MSs with granular, line-by-line data on local charitable grants, driving positive engagement at party conferences and parliamentary receptions.

  • Streamlined branding & accessibility: Moving to Polimapper in 2023 solved previous limitations regarding link-sharing and brand flexibility, notably allowing a full 2026 rebrand of all visualisations to be completed in under an hour.

  • Evidence-based advocacy: By effectively evidencing their local impact, Postcode Lottery strengthens its case for policy reform, including raising the £50 million annual sales cap to unlock an estimated £175 million in additional charity funding.

The brief

Postcode Lottery provides grants to charities and community groups in every part of the UK.

This gives it a compelling story to tell political stakeholders in Westminster and the devolved parliaments, and also helps evidence the potential impact of their calls to raise the annual sales cap on society lotteries.

Prior to working with Polimapper, Postcode Lottery had an existing solution for displaying its local impact, but limitations around branding and ability to share links to the data with stakeholders were among the foremost reasons for them choosing to move to Polimapper in 2023.

The solution

We created a series of visualisations for Postcode Lottery using Polimapper’s Stakeholder Connect product, highlighting the impact of charitable donations in Westminster, Holyrood and Senedd parliamentary constituencies.

The visualisations show the total value of donations in the constituency area, going back to 2015.

But the really interesting data – and that which prompts the most intrigue among stakeholders – lies in the tables showing a line–by-line breakdown of charitable grants made in the constituency, including the charity, project description, grant size and of course the postcode.

The flexibility of the Polimapper solution was recently demonstrated following Postcode Lottery’s rebranding in April 2026, when the new brand guidelines were applied to all visualisations in less than an hour.

The impact

Since becoming Polimapper customers in 2023, Postcode Lottery use their visualisations in day-to-day meetings with political stakeholders.

More prominently, Polimapper visualisations have taken centre stage on a large screen on the Postcode Lottery stand at every party conference season since 2023.

And they also use it at their annual parliamentary reception, and other parliamentary drop-ins, where it provides an excellent opportunity to talk MPs through the local impact of the grants made – something that always generates a very positive response.

Evidencing the local impact of the lottery provides a strong backdrop to calls for increasing the society lottery limit. The current limit – £50 million of annual ticket sales –  was considered by the government in 2025 but rejected due to a desire to protect the national lottery.

Postcode Lottery estimates that increasing the limit could provide an extra £175 million to charities.

It is also calling for reform of local gambling laws in Northern Ireland, which currently prevent society lotteries from operating.
